The National Banks, Bankers and Bank Notes of Wayne County, PA (1864-1935)
'Hometown' National Bank Notes showing the bank's name, and signed by local bank officers, were issued by most National Banks during the National Bank Note Era (1863-1935). Wayne county had four National Banks in operation between 1864 and 1935, and all four of those banks issued National Bank Notes.

Hawley
- First National Bank (Charter 6445) (1902-1978) (Merged into West Side Bank in Scranton, PA, September 30, 1978)
Honesdale
- Honesdale National Bank (Charter 644) (1864-1936) (Still in business as Honesdale National Bank (March 2025)) On Saturday, March 19th, 1836, the Governor of Pennsylvania signed an Act incorporating the Honesdale Bank.
Lake Ariel
- First National Bank (Charter 9886) (1910-2001) (Merged into NBT Bank, N.A. in Norwich, NY, March 16, 2001)
Newfoundland
- First National Bank (Charter 12911) (1926-1975) (Merged into Northeastern Bank of Pennsylvania in Scranton, PA on March 31, 1975)
Wayne County Banker Biographies
- Colonel Richard Lewis Seely, one of the organizers and the first president of the Honesdale Bank in 1836.
